Changing the way you think about personal productivity

Learn how to make the most of what works for you and the emerging research on where best to focus your attention.

This isn't a course that will tell you what you should do. It's a course designed to get you to make informed choices, try an approach and keep at it until you find what works for you. Professionals have different challenges when it comes to personal productivity and this course will tackle those tricky and unusual situations head on.

What's different about professional productivity?

Glad you asked. Here are the top three differences I've noticed in over twenty years of facilitating workshops on personal effectiveness, time management and career satisfaction for a wide range of professionals.

  • Urgent and Important

Says who? Professionals really don't like being told what to do and that includes when others see things are urgent or important. Procrastination becomes about how you feel about the work, and your Client. The way you are supervised and supervised others can also be different in professional careers.

  • Switching Off

Is easier said that done when you love your work. Switching your motivation on and off in a 9-5, week to week way is unusual in professional working environments. Late night shifts, weekend work and getting into the flow on a client project all have their place when you are switched on. It's the off part that's harder.

  • Details Do Matter

The questions is how much and at what price? To be professional is to pay attention to the right details in the right way, for the right reasons. Get this wrong and you can find yourself working in the negative forms of concern and worry rather than focused on the right details.

Taking Ownership | Showing Initiative | Be More Proactive

The frustrations of Partners, Principals and Senior Leaders everywhere

This course looks closely at these concepts to show you where the confusion comes from and how to work with it. For managers you will be able to communicate what you are looking for more clearly. For team members you will know what to listen for and how to seek clarification.

Old wine in new bottles?

YES and NO

Yes, I've been designing and delivering courses on these topics for over twenty years. The same questions and frustrations so come up again and again and there are some core concepts that continue to be relevant. No, because this course has been cooked from scratch in a new digital design for self-paced learning by busy professionals. Hear more about the design in the video below.

Monthly Content Questions

  • How does monthly content work ?

In addition to the ten hours of content and activities you receive on enrolment, each 30 days you will have access to new content that is released on a timed calendar. It could be a video, a book summary or a podcast along with a suggestion on how to connect it to your learning. The idea is to build the habit of thinking about your productivity over a sustained period of time.

  • Can I turn it off ?

You can't stop the content being released. I can remove you from the monthly notification so you won't know it's been added. You can happily ignore it. No content or activities in the course are mandatory. Use as little or as much as you would like.

  • Is it the same for everybody ?

Yes, I've tried to identify resources will be of broad interest to professionals. If you are in law, medicine or accounting-finance-risk you will be able to see at a glance if it's targeted for your professional using the same icon tags used in the course.

How do I know when I have completed the course?

  • How can I see my progress?

Each time you click 'next' or 'continue' in the online system the page is marked as complete. The % of pages you have completed can be seen in the top left hand corner of your screen. There is also a progress bar on the course tile in your home page.

  • Is there assessment?

There are optional assessments throughout the modules. There is no mandatory assessment. If you would a Certificate of Completion that recognises your new knowledge and skills you will need to submit some sections of your Learning Journal for review, have a minimum 70% completion rate and have completed X of the Y interactive learning exercises. Additional information and examples are provided in the module.

  • How do I know when I have completed the course?

Your individual learning journal is your indicator of completion. Some professionals will have just one goal and when they have what they need they consider the learning complete. For others you can review the suggestions in the module or use one of the two learner pathways and follow them through to completion.

  • How do I obtain a Certificate of Completion?

To obtain an automatic Certificate of Completion you need to view 100% of the online course pages OR send in your learning journal for review. The second option has been created for those that prefer to move around in the modules and do only the parts that are of interest. Use your own format or the template supplied. Follow the guidelines on what to include and the instructions on how to upload.

  • Do I need to complete within six months' of enrolment?

Yes, the system will block your access after 180 days. You will receive a reminder email one month prior. That's your opportunity to complete any learning you would like to do, download any of the learner resources and complete your learning journal.
